I was first aware of his artwork in the magazine Omni, many years ago when I was in my teens which was a great publication for highlighting many european surrealists. His artwork contained themes and subject matter that many artists had covered over time but his was done with such original style that no one has ever managed to come close to. It was a long standing wish that I could visit his Museum in Switzerland and last year my daughter kindly made arrangements to take her old Dad on weekend break to Geneva. I will always be in debited to her for letting me follow my dream journey that took us many hours to get there with much train changing until we arrived at Gruyères, Switzerland. We only had a few hours but I entered the museum with eyes wide open and could have spent a month there studying his massive canvases, sketches, furniture and sculptures. It was a trip of a lifetime and so glad I made the journey before he left this mortal coil.
This is one artist that has left his mark on the world of art and will never be replaced. I will treasure my time there and look sadly l at my art collection of H. R. Giger knowing there will never be another. A man of extraordinary vision and beauty. RIP. Mr Giger.
